Q1: Can I use my kitchen knives directly on the granite surface or will it scratch?<\/p>\n

A: Granite is one of the hardest materials on earth, ranking close to that of quartz and diamonds. You will not scratch the countertop using an ordinary kitchen knife; however, you will ruin the knife. Generally, it is not advisable to use granite as a cutting board. There are some specialty knives with a diamond chip or tungsten blades on the market, which can scratch granite as well.<\/p>\n

Q2: Can granite be repaired?<\/p>\n

A: Chips and cracks in granite can often be repaired. You can hire a professional granite fabricator or try one of the do-it-yourself kits. The kits use a plastic resin that hardens so smooth the surface, and the clear product makes the repair invisible on many types of granite, especially granite with distinct speckles, which help cover up the repair. However, some types of damage may need a professional's experience to make them as invisible as possible.<\/p>\n

Repairs will never be as sturdy as the original granite, however.<\/p>\n
