Quartzite is a metamorphic rock that was exposed to high pressure and temperatures in distant geological times; under these extreme conditions, it entirely changed its chemical and physical properties, making it impossible to recognize the previous state.
Quartzite, as the name implies, is primarily composed of quartz and was generated from layers of quartz sand that were damaged and metamorphically changed; this is readily visible on the fine-grained surface. Minerals, if present, determine the color shades.
Quartzites are typically color neutral, with colors ranging from white to grey, but in the presence of other minerals, they can range from green to pink or red, and from purple to blue. If there are quartz nodules or other inclusions, the surface structure is usually not homogenous, but still fascinating.
